| DAys 3 - 4: Benguerra Island, Marlin Lodge |
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Benguerra Island by light charter aircraft. Here you will be met by a representative of Marlin Lodge and taken by road to the lodge, located on Benguerra Island. The island is set amid translucent waters flecked with dhow sails and rich in marine life - an unspoilt paradise for those seeking a haven of peace, something extraordinary.
You will spend two nights at Marlin Lodge in a standard room on a Full Board basis, which entitles you to all meals, non-motorised watersports and a dhow sailboat cruise.
Marlin's elegant wooden structures are beautifully integrated into the environment. A row of luxury chalets snakes along a dune overlooking a white beach and tidal sand spit. The lodge is constructed from hardwood, and is an elevated structure on stilts with deck platforms, reed walls and thatched roofs. Wooden walkways connect the twenty chalets to the main areas.
The wood-reed-and-thatch chalets with en-suite bathrooms are a blend of African elegance and tropical island beauty and each has a patch of beach to itself. Drift into slumber listening to the lap of waves and the breath of trade winds in the palms.
At Marlin you can't escape the age old rhythms of Africa, the heady sense of history. There's the legacy of Portuguese carracks, trading dhows bearing slaves and ivory to the East and whispered legends of the Queen of Sheba's Ophir pearls. Each day you'll be reminded of the archipelago's colourful past as fishermen pole their beautiful dhows - a sight unaltered in centuries - out to catch the wind. The locals continue to live a laid-back island lifestyle - harvesting their crops, cashew trees and the ocean's bounty. And late at night you may hear the pulse of distant drums...
The centerpiece of the lodge is a living-dining area where one can retreat from the African sun.
The pool is set in a glade of coconut and ilala palms, perfect for a day of relaxing and tropical cocktails. Upon occasion lunch is served here which creates an African Island setting.
Marlin Lodge cuisine is a colourful and exotic delight with an array of seafood flavours being the order of the day. Meals range from semi-formal affairs in the dining room to casual beach buffets. Dinners are sumptuous occasions every night. |
