By air. The best way to get to Northern Mozambique from outside of Africa is through the two international hub airports of Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania and Johannesburg International in South Africa. For the most updated time tables, please consult LAM (Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique) or SAA (South African Airways).
From Dar Es Salaam, direct flights from Pemba on LAM run five times per week (every day except Friday and Sunday) and cost from US$200.
From Johannesburg, flights to the North (Pemba, Nampula or Lichinga) must go through Maputo, Mozambique’s capital. LAM and SAA both offer daily flights between Johannesburg and Maputo. Return fares are from US$200.
